Just got a WDRP notice and since it’s the first time I’ve paid attention to that acronym, my first thought was “who’s got a beef with the name”
But as you know, or maybe not, WDRP stands for Whois Data Reminder Policy, ICANN’s system of reminding people to keep their Whois info up-to-date.
Anyone else think ICANN should find a new name for this policy?
Anyway, this isn’t earth shattering news or anything, I just thought I’d post about my initial reaction to the email I received a few minutes ago.
Have a good one

It’s been almost a week since the .CO’s have been open to general registration. After a slight delay, I got 3 of them. One is a LLL.co, another is an electronics product domain and the other in a LLLL.co one-word spanish generic.
I just listed them on Sedo a couple of days ago and will be monitoring the traffic to see how these perform.
So, what did you guys get?

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of posting. Haven’t been feeling very creative lately.
Haven’t done one of these in a while so today’s post will be a showcase post about yet another Canadian company using and promoting a generic .ca.
The company is Hickory Dickory Decks and they specialize in custom built decks. I’ve seen they’re signage often in the Ottawa area and have heard their recent radio campaign but I was quite surprised that they are not just a local company, they have a presence in many cities across Canada and an office in Upstate New York.
I am really glad they have developed this domain, but they are also hosting the exact same site on their long tail .com (hickorydickorydecks.com). What they should be doing is forwarding one to the other (and for the purposes of this blog, I would like to see them forward the .com to the .ca)
Also, they should be using this domain in their email addresses. By quickly going through their contact page, I saw that the main contact email is a gmail address. And the regional offices are using other free email services like gmail, rogers, yahoo and other random ISP addresses.
So all in all I would say that this company made the right decision to develop decks.ca and to use it in their advertising campaigns, but they still have some work to do to take full advantage of this .ca category killer.
I hope you enjoyed this showcase post and I will try to post more often on a variety of topics involving the .ca
Thanks for reading

Just read a post by Premiumhosted over at DNForum.com and a blog post at thedomains.com announcing that poker.ca was sold for an amazing $400,000.
With the poker affiliate business being as big as it is, and several provinces looking to get into the online poker game, I’m curious to see what will be done with this domain.
Congrats to the buyer and seller on this one. Hopefully this will bring even more attention to the .ca market and remind end-users that the .ca is a great alternative.

Hey everyone,
I’m still alive and am pretty busy with my new day job so I aplogize for the lack of posts lately. I have not devoted much time to domaining in the last little while, so no real domaining news.
But I just wanted to let you all know that I have added a page to the blog with my domain names that are currently for sale. The page can be found on my new Names for Sale page, so if you are interested in some not-too-bad domains, please have a look and contact me if you see one that you like.
Most of them are parked, but I have linked the ones that are developed.
Have a great day and thanks for reading

Ok, so it isn’t a .ca but I used the services of contentminisites.com for one of my .ca’s so that’s close enough.
I first heard of this site while browsing the forums at DNF and I was pretty impressed with what they were producing. I was also very curious too as I have never a) Created a mini-site or b) Used the services of a designer. And since the price wasn’t too bad, I decided I would buy 1 credit and use it for one of my domains that I had developed half-assed.
The registration and purchase was quick and the submission process was very easy too. All you have to do is indicate the domain, 5 keywords, your adnetwork, your publisher ID and pick a template.
Once you submit your site, you can keep track of it’s status.
And I must say, I was very impressed by the quick turnaround time because in less than 2 hours (1 hour 27 minutes to be exact), I received notification that my site files were ready to download.
Extracting and uploading the files was simple and my site was up an running in a matter of minutes after receiving the files.
I haven’t had a chance to play around with the backend just yet, but if I find some neat stuff, I’ll be sure to post about it.
Have a look at sommeliers.ca and let me know what you think
Also, have a look a contentminisites.com to see if their products are right for you.
Have a good night

It’s been a while since I’ve posted so I figured I’d showcase a great generic .ca that I came across recently.
This name is owned and used by a popular doctor in Ottawa who specializes in vasectomies.
He could have easily gone with a regular domain like drXXXX.ca; XXXXclinic.ca or a whole host of other non-generic domains. But the fact that he went with a category killing generic like vasectomy.ca shows that some end-users actually “get it” and understand why generics are so great.
I don’t subscribe to any domain tool sites, nor do I have any deep knowledge of the numbers the site gets, but a quick search of “vasectomy” in google.ca and we see that vasectomy.ca is the second result (behind only the Wikipedia result). Not too shabby
Anyway, just posting to let you guys know that I’m still alive.
Oh, and don’t ask me why I was searching for vasectomy information

Sorry about the lack of posting lately. A new job and new work hours are throwing me off, but hopefully I’ll be back on the swing of things real soon.
Anyway, just wanted to let you all know about GoDaddy’s latest coupon code. By using BUY2010, you can get a .ca and a few other extensions for $0.99 + tax.
Well, that’s it for today.
Have a good weekend and Go Canada Go!!!

I’m at home tonight watching the various telethons raising money for Haiti.
And while watching the Canadian version, I was surprised to see Worldvision, the charity running the telethon, was using the canadaforhaiti.com domain during the broadcast, even though they also registered canadaforhaiti.ca last week.
I know this is minor compared to what is going on, but it would have been awesome to see the .ca being used for this Canadian broadcast (especially since the word ‘Canada’ is in the domain)
Anyway, thanks for reading my little rant and if you haven’t yet, please donate what you can to a reputable charity. Every dollar helps. I made a donation shortly after the earthquake hit and I made another one just a few minutes ago.
Thanks for reading
